Information regarding the Romanian Visa for short stay
(maximum 90 days within 6 months from the first entry )
The Romanian visa is granted only by the Romanian diplomatic missions or consular offices overseas.
It is NOT possible to obtain visas at the Romanian Border.
The requirements for obtaining the Romanian visa for overseas citizens, holders of an overseas passport, travelling to Romania, are the following
:1. application form (the only application form accepted is the one attached - VISA FORM A,B,C), filled out in full and signed by the applicant;
IMPORTANT: for under-aged children the forms must be signed by both parents!
2. two passport photos, coloured and recent (shall not be attached to the form) ;
3. passport of the applicant in original (the travel document on which the visa is to be applied must exceed the validity term of the requested visa with at least 6 months and it should include at least one blank page for the visa sticker);
4. airplane ticket or travel itinerary;
5. proof of travel or medical insurance, valid for the entire period of stay in Romania;
6. proof of sufficient funds for the entire period of stay in Romania, in an amount of 50 euro / day but not less than 500 euro or the equivalent in other foreign currency (e.g. proof of income, travellers cheques, credit card statement etc.);
7. proof of accommodation in Romania:
- voucher / reservation in a hotel – for a tourist visa;
- proof of the accommodation in Romania as a statutory declaration from a citizen / person from Romania (with the authentication of a Romanian public notary), which must contain details of the citizen who invites (e.g. full name, address and number of the identity card / passport, legal status in Romania when he / she is not a Romanian citizen), details of the invited person (full name, address and number of the Australian passport), place of staying, length and purpose of the visit – for a visit visa;
For other activities in Romania (e.g. business, sport, cultural, scientific or humanitarian activities) the applicant shall also present the proof of the purpose of the travel and of the accommodation in Romania, covered by the physical or legal person / organizer. For more details on these situations, the applicant should contact the Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office.
The visa fees are:
- for single entry visa: 60 $ AUD (issuing within a week) – 70 $AUD (issuing within 48 hours);
- for multiple entries visa: 110 $ AUD (issuing within a week) – 120 $ AUD (issuing within 48 hours).
Overseas citizens, residents of New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory who travel to Romania, shall obtain the visa from the Consulate General of Romania in Sydney (84 Elizabeth Bay Road, Elizabeth Bay, NSW 2011, Ph. 02 – 8354 0268, Fax: 02 – 9357 1565, e-mail: consrsyd@tpg.com.au ). Payments can only be made by cash or by money order on the name of “Consulate General of Romania”. We don’t accept personal cheques or credit cards.
Overseas citizens, residents of ACT, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and New-Zealand who travel to Romania shall obtain the visa from the Romanian Embassy in Canberra (4 Dalman Crescent, O’Malley, ACT, 2606; tel. 02.6290.2442; Fax: 02.6286.5267; e-mail: rocons@cyberone.com.au). IMPORTANT!
No visa is required for citizens from EU countries, USA, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Israel and Japan.
Starting with 1 January 2007 - the date of Romania’s accession to the European Union, the citizens of the following countries will be exempted from obtaining short stay visas to enter Romania (visas for stays not longer than 90 days within 6 months, from the date of the first entry into Romania): Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Panama and Paraguay.
